Forest Spirits

By Nancy Jackson

A sheltering place to keep me safe
Inside a protective dome
Far away from outside harm
Comforted in my wooded home

Each limb and branch surround me
Reaching as if a guided hand
Offering me a lesson to learn
Teaching respect of our own land

A bittersweet scent fills the air
Nature’s music heard all around
Listening to the birds’ lovely songs
Entrancing and poetic sounds

The forest is alive with spirits
Ancient stories and tales galore
Trees breathe in us a new life and energy
A sense of balance they restore
