The Well

By Gryphon Stormwing

Into the waters still and cold,
I stare with dread and fear.
Into the dangers yet untold,
I stand alone and peer.

Seeking that which I have lost,
within that darkened deep.
How high the price, how dear the cost
to free it from that keep.

Now as I hem and haw and hedge,
and try to find my goal.
I look out o'er that fearsome edge,
and find, it's a portion of my soul.

The reason my heart feels so alone,
and forces, a gruesome choice to make.
For cowardice it won't condone,
so off the edge, that first step I must take.

Into the glassy waters I dive,
braced against that bitter cold.
My heart, my mind, my soul revived,
filled with love and strength untold.
