This sleuthing circle of friends tackles a rash of hemlock poisonings in their small town.
All 5 ladies have had their lives change and grow since the first book (Circle of Five), with 4 of them now married. Not that it has forced any of these magickal women to settle down at all. As usual, they get themselves involved in the latest crimes in Plymouth.
Hemlock-laced brownies start appearing at social functions, as a poisoner begins to target certain people in the town. Cass can't seem to get her psychic flashes to focus in on the culprit, so along with the magick, some more traditional snooping is employed. The pastor's wife also takes an innocent interest in the Wiccan practices of the circle, which was quite unexpected. I'm curious to see where that goes in future books.
Characters from the second book make a stronger reappearance in this fourth book. Freddie and Tip are both back, and I suspect we'll be seeing more of teen-witch Freddie considering her new relationship to Cass (no hints!).
