Fog swirled through the mirror. Three women appeared in it. They were some of the Goddess’s favorite witches. She had put them through trial and error, and they shone like the jewels that they were.
“I still say we should do this,” Bethany said as she sat down at the table.
“But what of the three-fold law?” Carmen asked.
“What will happen if something goes wrong?” Penny questioned, closing the door so that the sounds of rush-hour L.A. traffic would not distract them.
“Nothing will go wrong, as long as our hearts are true. This spell is for love, not to turn someone into a zombie. It’s meant to draw love into our lives,” Bethany responded.
Tired of being alone, Bethany had stumbled upon an incantation in an old Book of Shadows that she had found in a used book store. As an owner of a rare book store herself, Bethany made the circuits of such stores and garage sales to find the rarest books. No one would mistake her for a book store owner. She was tall, almost five-eleven, and thanks to her Nordic heritage. Her hair was platinum naturally. In high school, she was so gangly that she used to trip over her own feet. She had eyes the color of Norwegian amber.
“Listen, all that matters is that you don’t bind someone to your bidding, because true love can’t be forced. I’ve read at least a dozen different spells inducing, or attracting love to you, which is acceptable. This was the oldest spell, and a lot of other books refer to it,” Bethany explained.
“But how will the Goddess view this? I mean, will it come back on us three - fold?” queried Carmen, the shiest of the three.
These women were different as day and night. The one thing in common was their love of all things Wiccan. They were solitary witches; brought together because they were shy, gangly, and overweight, wore braces, and numerous other reasons that kept the girls from being popular. Ten years later the bond still held.
Carmen was very petite. Standing at exactly five feet, people tended not to see her, which contributed towards her shyness. She might have been popular in school, for she was extremely beautiful, but the shyness held her back. Her out standing features were her hair, which was as black as a raven’s wing. Violet eyes hid behind long thick black eyelashes that needed no help from Cover Girl. Her love of art and baking caused her to open a bakery that catered to an art deco style of baked goods, including custom designed wedding cakes. She was fast becoming one of the top bakers in the country.
“I mean, what happens if we do this spell and something goes wrong, like it causes the opposite to happen, or maybe we don’t like the men who are attracted to it?,” asked Penny.
Of the three, Penny had had it the worst. She was constantly on a diet, even though she exercised routinely, she was always plump. In high school, she was the fat girl that everyone made fun of; pimples, stringy red hair and thick glasses didn’t help. Now thanks to an inheritance from a rich relative, she no longer needed glasses, allowing her emerald green eyes to shine. Her pimples cleared the day she left school. She was able to trim her body down to only being plump. At one point she had been bulimic, but Bethany and Carmen had shown her the ways of the Goddess, showing her that there was much more to life then her weight.
“Remember, this is only to attract love, make them or us fall in love. If we don’t like them, we move on. If we follow the spell, then nothing should go wrong,” Bethany explained.
“I say we should do it,” Carmen stated. Penny nodded to show her agreement.
“Fine, the best time to do the spell will be on Beltane, which is a week away. There will be a full moon, which will increase the power of the spell,” stated Bethany.
The Goddess frowned. She loved all her witches equally. It hurt her to think that these lovely women felt like they weren’t loved. She knew they loved Her, but that no male had found them as beautiful as she did was irritating. Looking in her mirror for answers, she smiled as she found what she wanted.
Three men stood around a computer screen. They stared in disbelief at the screen.
“How could this happen?” Bryon asked.
“Where did we go wrong?” questioned Merick.
“So what do we do now?” said Jonathan.
